Houry Gebeshian
Houry has been passionate about gymnastics for over 20 years and has experienced nearly every stage of the sport firsthand. She personally navigated the college recruiting process, ultimately earning a Division I scholarship to compete for the University of Iowa. During her time as a Hawkeye, Houry was a four-year all-around competitor while studying athletic training. In 2010, she became the Big Ten Conference Champion on the balance beam and competed at the NCAA National Championships.
Following her collegiate career, Houry continued pursuing her passion for gymnastics at the elite level, competing internationally for the Republic of Armenia. In 2016, she made history as the first woman to represent Armenia in artistic gymnastics at the Olympic Games. During her Olympic journey, she successfully unveiled her own original mount onto the uneven bars, which was later named “The Gebeshian.”
Alongside her gymnastics career, Houry attended graduate school to become a physician assistant. She went on to build a clinical career in Labor & Delivery, where she worked for more than 10 years caring for women throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Today, she combines her clinical experience with her passion for education as a faculty professor of Physician Assistant Studies.
While Houry has developed a deep passion for medicine and education, her heart has always remained in the gym. Her experiences as a collegiate athlete, elite gymnast, Olympian, healthcare professional, and educator have given her a unique perspective on the importance of setting goals, navigating major transitions, and finding the right path to achieve them.
Houry founded Full Out Collegiate Recruiting with one goal: to provide aspiring collegiate gymnasts and their families with the guidance, education, and support they need to navigate the recruiting process with confidence. Having personally experienced the process as a recruit and later helping other athletes navigate it, Houry understands just how important, and overwhelming, this stage of an athlete’s career can be.
Houry’s motto is, “It’s never too late to deliver your dreams.” At Full Out Recruiting, she is passionate about helping athletes discover their opportunities, find the right college fit, and deliver their own gymnastics dreams.
